This past Sunday we prayed for Nicole who is serving in Cambodia. She will have a two month internship for community health services.
Busy hands, listening ears during worship this past Sunday.
In spite of Sunday's cooler temperatures, the previous week's warm temperatures caused spring plants to shoot up, azalea buds to form, and the farmer's vegetables to appear. New life is everywhere.
God is with us and knows just what we need.
Do you see what is missing? Yes, we had to have a tree taken down for safety reasons. We will especially miss it come summer as that wonderful shade will be gone.
Today's gathering was a collaboration between Bereans and those from AMF (Atlanta Mennonite Fellowship). The service was readings and singing, and joining our voices produced very joyful music. Thank you to all who helped in the service.
Today, this second Sunday of Advent, we lit the PEACE candle. A prayer from the Leader magazine is as follows: "Merciful God, during this busy bustling season, quiet us, so we may hear your voice. Forgive us when we have failed; renew your Spirit within us; change our hearts to be more loving, more caring and more forgiving. Lead us, God, as we prepare ourselves for the coming of the Christ child. Amen."
Thank you, Hannah Chappell-Dick, for using your gift abilities and decorating for Advent.
This was our sending song today. May God's hand be your strength this week.
Come get your pumpkins on our church property. Thank you to all who are helping this year!
This was my view as I stood talking with our farmer this afternoon. It is not difficult to contemplate creation care when butterflies are flitting from flower to flower in front of you.
Today, August 5, we had the opportunity to hear from Christy and Peter Sensenig and learn about their work in Zanzibar. The morning was full with fellowship during a breakfast potluck followed by worship.
Our gathering time this morning was encouraging and worshipful especially the singing led by Bridget Long. Thank you, Matt Erdel, for all your care in planning the service as well as Vangie and Jason Rodenbeck for your pictures.
Thanks to all who were able to come and help with tasks at the church on Saturday. Your accomplishments were greatly appreciated. (Artistic talents credited to Hannah Chappelle-Dyck.)
Each Sunday we are opening and reading a message from our blessing jar, a gift from Central District Conference. Thank you, Silverwood Mennonite Church, for your kind and encouraging words.
A group meets at 10:00 each Sunday to study and discuss weekly scripture passages. We each learn from one another as we study the Bible. (The back door had been opened to let in the cool morning air but also brought in the sounds of the farmer's chickens who seemed quite happy with their morning!)
We at Berea are thrilled to be accepted as a church in Central District Conference of Mennonite Church, USA. Kathleen Kennel and Matt Erdel were able to attend conference mertings in Goshen, Indiana, where we were graciously given a blessing bowl and beautiful diffuser to use in worship. Thank you to the many churches of the conference for their welcoming spirit to us at Berea.
This is a song sung in worship on Sunday, June 17; let us continue to be "people of God's peace." We also prayed for those families who are being separated as they enter our country's southern border.
Tyler's first message to us today which ended with these encouraging words. "May what matters most to us-the children at Language Garden, beloved individuals at Friendship Center, the farmer and farm workers, the DOOR volunteers, Americorps residents, the people of this neighborhood, and the people of our church community-be placed in the care of the Lord who cares the most about us. May our devotion put the spotlight on you, Lord."
Today, we prayed for peace on the Korean peninsula. Thank you, Vera, for guiding our focus with your items from South Korea.

We had a marvelous last day of Summer work camps yesterday - the heavens parted (ok, so it stayed pretty gray all day) and these really nice folks from First Presbyterian Church of Hector, NY came by to try their best at making raised rows (they borrowed our boots to do it - we just didn't have the heart to put their shoes in the mud!) and they harvested the grapes and a couple of handy young men went to town on all the twig fences that needed to be repaired. They even built the gate for the learning garden! Pray thanks for these and all the other good partners we have had this summer from DOOR Atlanta. Pray for the fathers of the two boys who are both having back issues. And pray for this group to have a great last day in Atlanta before heading home and back to school.
